Description
Altered skirt, embroidery thread.
41 x 61cm.
As a trans person with often gender non conforming expression, there is a multiplicity in how I exist as my gender versus how I am perceived.
A skirt I made from my favourite skinny jeans, still beloved; if I wear it will you still call me ‘butch’? Being misread as a lesbian doesn’t change my gender. If you only perceive the outer shell of my body, does that erase my femininity?
‘I don’t want your masculinity either’ captures labels and phrases from two sides of the scales, both of which wash over me and never stick.
